Manchester City have had a strong start to their new season so far.

After beating Manchester United on penalties in the Community Shield, Pep Guardiola’s side won their first Premier League game of the new campaign by beating Chelsea 2-0 at Stamford Bridge.

Despite it still being early in the season, one figure in the City squad has found himself being backed by a pundit to shine for the Manchester club this season, despite not being at the Etihad Stadium for too long.

Ally McCoist backs Savinho to be a top signing for Man City

When asked which new summer signing grabbed his attention during City’s recent win against Chelsea, Ally McCoist had this to say in response on talkSPORT.

He said: “Certainly, the one that would have caught the eye, I saw him when he come on against United in the Community Shield. I thought he played well at the Bridge, and that was Savinho.

“I thought he was excellent. He looks as though he’s going to be a great signing, another fantastic acquisition.

“Just what everybody else in the Premier League apart from Manchester City didn’t need. But from City’s point of view, again they look as though they’ve got a winner there.”

Savinho has shown glimpses of his talent at City so far

As McCoist mentioned, the Brazilian came on to make his debut for City in the second half of the Community Shield against United.

In the 27 minutes he was on the pitch, Savinho made one key pass and completed three dribbles after replacing Jeremy Doku in the 63rd minute.

Having then started and completed the first half against Chelsea, the winger made three key passes and completed all three dribbles he attempted before going off injured at halftime.

After Sunday’s game at Stamford Bridge, Guardiola said that he’s been impressed with the impact Savinho has had at City so far.

This all makes it easy to see why McCoist has been excited by what he’s seen of the summer recruit so far.
