Manchester City have signed a lot of players since Pep Guardiola took charge of the club.

A lot of those players who have made moves to the Etihad Stadium since 2016 have gone on to help the club win the plethora of trophies they’ve won over the years.

Having become the first side to win four Premier League titles in a row, Guardiola has turned the players in his City squad into serial winners.

Many figures in the City ranks are also seasoned international players, with the Manchester club having more players (14) feature in the 2024 European Championship than any other side in the Premier League.

With the Citizens now on the path to winning more silverware, a pundit has now shared his thoughts on one particular figure at the club who has played a big role in seeing City win the titles they have done recently.

Ally McCoist debates whether Erling Haaland is world-class

While discussing whether players such as Bukayo Saka, Cole Palmer and Jude Bellingham could be considered to be at a world-class level, Ally McCoist had this to say in a recent video shared on the talkSPORT YouTube channel when asked if he thinks Erling Haaland is a world-class player.

He said: “Yeah, that’s an interesting one. He is the nearest one of the lot of them, for me at this moment in time which is incredible to say.

“Still got a little bit to go, in my opinion, to be held up with the greats as world-class. But out of the lot of them, he is probably the nearest.

“And it’s amazing because he is world-class or will be world-class, I think, will be remembered as world-class putting the ball in the back of the net, which is completely different to most of the others that we mentioned.”

What else has been said about Haaland being considered world-class?

After bagging 86 goals in 89 games for Borussia Dortmund, the striker joined City in a deal worth £51m back in the 2022 summer transfer window.

Since then, the Norwegian has found the back of the net 101 times in 108 matches across all competitions, lifting numerous team titles and individual awards along the way.

This isn’t the first time the 24-year-old’s credentials have been discussed, as Stewart Robson claimed earlier this year that Haaland can only be considered a world-class player if he improves elements of his game away from just scoring goals.

However, with McCoist now saying that he thinks the only thing Haaland needs is time for him to eventually become a world-class player as long as he keeps scoring the goals he has been so far in his career, this shows how highly the former Rangers striker thinks of the City star.
