Pundit Liam Brady has hailed Manchester City’s transfer move for Josko Gvardiol.

After spending weeks trying to secure a deal for him from RB Leipzig, the Citizens eventually got their man earlier this month in a move worth an overall fee of £77m.

Having now completed the full 90 minutes in City’s two previous games against Sevilla in the Super Cup and Newcastle United in the Premier League, one pundit has already heaped praise on City’s capture of him.

Speaking in a recent episode of The Stand with Eamon Dunphy, Brady had this to say about Gvardiol.

He said: “I think Manchester City have already made two really good signings.

“This Gvardiol, the Croatian defender at the back is an absolutely brilliant player. You remember him at the World Cup for Croatia, he was very, very good. He could break out with the ball, he’s comfortable on the ball but he’s also a big, strong defender.”

After last weekend’s 1-0 win over Newcastle where he managed to help the home side keep a clean sheet in his full Premier League debut and first outing at the Etihad Stadium, the defender earned himself a match rating of 7/10 from the Manchester Evening News, who said that the Croatian “managed to get himself out of a few situations with a cool head.”

Looking back to the Super Cup clash against Sevilla that City won on penalties following a 1-1 draw after 90 minutes, Gvardiol ended up earning himself an overall match rating of 7.6/10 from SofaScore, making him the highest-rated City defender on the night.

With that in mind, even though it’s still very early in the season and his time at the club, the signs about Gvardiol and his performances have been promising.

Moving forward, if the 21-year-old can continue to put in strong performances for Pep Guardiola’s side, he’ll definitely prove himself as a top signing as Brady spoke about.
