Pep Guardiola lavished praise on to Kyle Walker after he impressed once again for Manchester City in their 3-1 victory against West Ham United.

Speaking to the press (via City’s official YouTube channel) after the contest, the Catalan tactician gave his two cents on the £50 million (Guardian) man’s performance.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola singled Kyle Walker out for his excellent showing against West Ham United.

Branded as ‘fantastic’ by Nedum Onuoha, the 33-year-old followed up his decision to sign a contract extension at the Etihad Stadium with a cracking showing.

Deployed as both a wide right-back and in an inverted role as well, Walker was terrific in possession, nearly set up a goal for Haaland late into the game and was flawless at the back.

After the game, Pep Guardiola explained how his use of Kyle Walker benefited Manchester City against West Ham, while complimenting his performance, considering how much he featured during the international break just a couple of days ago.

“We tried to put the full-backs more inside in the fear of [defending] transitions. With the movement from Kyle wide today, we created [despite] the back five from West Ham. With Kyle inside, we could create [against] their back four.”

“And always in the final third, Kyle is…the game Kyle, oh God has today is amazing. Played 90 minutes in England, 90 minutes [in Scotland], three days later, 90 minutes, chapeau.”

Keeping Kyle Walker was a brilliant piece of business

As Kyle Walker showed Pep Guardiola and Manchester City against West Ham once again, he remains one of, if not the best right-back in the world.

Ultimately, one could have understood if the ageing defender was sold to Bayern Munich, considering it may be fair to say that he is past his prime.

However, Walker’s sustained quality, tactical flexibility, leadership and invaluable experience makes him such a crucial player and to have tied him down to a deal until 2026 was astute business from the club.
