Manchester City’s report pursuit of Erling Haaland will be far from straightforward.
Pep Guardiola has stated he feels the Norwegian goal machine will be too expensive (via ESPN).
And new reports appear to confirm the Spaniard’s concerns, with Mino Raiola supposedly demanding huge fees go to himself and the player’s father, in addition to the wages and transfer fee.
It’s probably likely he will not be making a move to the Etihad this summer, but City still need to look at alternatives.
One man who has been linked recently (Daily Mail) is Andre Silva, who is a man reborn at Eintracht Frankfurt.
The 25-year-old didn’t have a great time of things at AC Milan, but is really doing the business in the Bundesliga, and has hit 23 goals in 27 games so far.
He’s also notched seven assists.
He only joined Eintracht permanently in September 2020 and has a contract until 2023 according to Transfermarkt, meaning he could be expensive.
But he’d be far cheaper than Haaland that’s for sure.
Silva could be a great fit
Silva has got to be worth considering by City.
The man has been absolutely deadly this season and has shown real predatory instincts.
A feature from the Bundesliga in 2019 said that Silva had ‘unflappable composure’ and a ‘poacher’s nose’, and his numbers these days clearly suggests there’s a lot of truth in that.
He’s also obviously got a creative side as evidenced by those seven assists.
There’s a nice Portuguese contingent forming at the Etihad with the likes of Joao Cancelo, Ruben Dias and Bernardo Silva and then there’s Ederson and Fernandinho who both obviously speak Portuguese.
There potentially a strong chance he’d fancy the move, so City should see about testing the waters if Haaland really is going to go for silly money.
One gets the feeling he’d scored just as many, if not more in this team.
