Luton Town winger Andros Townsend has given an insight into why he was stunned when he faced Manchester City on Sunday.
On talkSPORT (11/12/2023), the Englishman expressed his admiration for Pep Guardiola’s men and how they play.
Andros Townsend reveals why he was stunned when he played Manchester City
The 32-year-old assisted Elijah Adebayo’s opening goal with an inch-perfect cross from the right flank.
Fortunately for the Sky Blues, Bernardo Silva and Jack Grealish bagged a pair of goals in quick succession to ensure an upset was not on the cards.
However, Andros Townsend revealed why he was taken aback by playing against Manchester City.

“Probably Man City [have impressed me the most]. In the first moment of the game, we did everything perfectly. Yet, they still found a way, bang, bang, bang, shot on goal and they could’ve been 1-0 up in the first 30 seconds”, he told talkSPORT.
“And I just looked at Alfie [Doughty] and I was like, “Wow, this is different! This is absolutely different!”‘
“It’s Man City [who are the most impressive team] because no matter what you throw at them, they find a way. They find players in the pockets and they find a way [to] cut you open.”
In the first half in particular, before Elijah Adebayo’s goal, Manchester City looked like they were in cruise control.
While City were struggling to carve out too many chances, one could still say that they could have been at least 2-0 up if not for misses from the likes of Phil Foden and Bernardo Silva.
Manchester City remain the crème-de-la-crème and their recent form does not change that
Considering Andros Townsend has faced the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool in the Premier League this season, his glowing assessment of Manchester City speaks volumes about their sheer quality.
In recent weeks, City have been uncharacteristically all over the place, both in terms of their results as well as their all-round displays.
Even so, as Townsend explained, they remain the best of the best and it would be naïve to count them out in any capacity at this stage of the season.
With Kevin De Bruyne yet to return and Manchester City far from being in final gear, one can imagine that they could be a nightmare for every team in England and in Europe once again.
