Manchester City aren’t having the best of seasons, and it looks as though this squad is at the end of a road.
Indeed, City sit fifth in the Premier League after winning four consecutive league titles, while they’re on the brink of Champions League elimination after losing to Real Madrid on Tuesday evening.

So, what has gone wrong at City? That question is tough to answer, but, as ever, one thing that you can point towards for any struggling team is their recruitment.
Manchester City have got their signings spot on for a long time. Josko Gvardiol was the signing of the season last year in the eyes of some, while Manuel Akanji was a remarkable signing too.
However, City’s success rate in terms of new signings has dipped in recent times, and speaking on BeIN Sports, Andy Gray has noted some issues with City’s recruitment and one player in particular.

Andy Gray says Jack Grealish has fallen off a cliff
Gray spoke about City’s signings and their inability to replace their star players.
The pundit noted that Savinho hasn’t stepped up to replace Riyad Mahrez.
Savinho was actually compared to Mahrez when he first signed, but his performances have since dipped.
Meanwhile, Gray also said that Jack Grealish’s form has fallen off a cliff since he joined City too.
“Part of the reason I think is that the players he’s brought in, a lot of them are not as good as the players who have gone, the Agueros, the Kompanys, the Yaya Toures,” Gray said.
Savinho is not Mahrez is he? Jack Grealish has fallen off a cliff in recent years. These players haven’t lived up to the players they’re taking over from.”
Jack Grealish Man City stats compared to Aston Villa
Gray says that Grealish has dropped off since joining City, and he’s not wrong.
Indeed, Grealish, quite simply, isn’t the player he once was – or at least he doesn’t look like the player he once was.
The England international was a £100m player during his time at Aston Villa, but since joining City, he really hasn’t lived up to those lofty expectations, and the numbers show it.
| Jack Grealish Aston Villa stats | Jack Grealish Manchester City stats | |
|---|---|---|
| 213 | Games | 149 |
| 32 | Goals | 16 |
| 41 | Assists | 23 |
| 0.15 | Goals per game | 0.11 |
| 0.19 | Assists per game | 0.15 |
Despite joining a team that is much more ball-dominant, Grealish is scoring fewer goals and creating fewer chances since joining City.
Pep Guardiola is one of the best managers in the world when it comes to improving players, and he’s worked wonders with many attackers over the years.
However, for some reason, he’s not been able to get the best out of Grealish, and that has been a problem at the Etihad for far too long now.
Grealish was linked with Tottenham late last year, and maybe a move away from City would be best for all parties at this point.
