‘Annoying’… Kevin De Bruyne says there’s something about his time at Man City that he doesn’t really like

Kevin De Bruyne has admitted that it is “annoying” that he suffered injuries in both the Champions League finals for Manchester City he has played in.

Against Chelsea in 2021, the midfield maestro had to be taken off after Antonio Rudiger barged into him, leading to him suffering an eye injury.

While against Inter Milan last season, the 32-year-old was hooked off once again, as he told LiveScore after Manchester City’s 1-0 victory that his hamstring “snapped” after playing through pain for months.

Unfortunately for Kevin De Bruyne, his side were unable to get over the line against Chelsea, as Kai Havertz’s opener ended up being the difference between both sides in Porto.

However, Rodri’s 68th-minute screamer against Inter Milan meant De Bruyne won Europe’s elite competition for the first time, much like City.

Even now, however, Kevin De Bruyne has admitted it still irks him that he had to go off injured in both Champions League finals for Manchester City.

“Obviously, we won it [but] in a kind of way, it’s a little bit annoying that I get injured in two [Champions League] finals”, he told Rio Ferdinand during an interview with TNT Sports.

The Manchester United legend quizzed Kevin De Bruyne about whether it still gets to him that he was unable to participate for the entirety of both Champions League finals.

“It doesn’t get to me because I understand the situation last year what I’ve done. I was managing a hamstring injury so I understand that but still, I did what I needed to do, I helped my team do the job and they finished us off but it’s still an annoying part where I would love to manage through a final.”

“There’s nothing I can do. I have a rupture of 10 centimetres in my hamstring, there’s no chance to play so it is still annoying but I’m really proud of what we have done.”

Hopefully, Kevin De Bruyne can play for the full game this time around

It is understandable why Kevin De Bruyne is far from happy about being injured in two Champions League finals, as the game is one of the biggest and most prestigious in the history of the game.

However, if City do reach the final once again this year, one hopes De Bruyne is fully fit to partake for the entirety of the contest.

If the former VFL Wolfsburg midfielder can either get on the scoresheet or register an assist while winning the competition, it would further bolster his legacy as one of the best midfielders the game has ever seen.
