Antonio Rudiger has named one Manchester City player as his best friend in football.
The centre-back recently faced off against the Manchester club in the 3-3 draw between Real Madrid and Pep Guardiola’s side.
Ahead of that game, the German international shared some details on a close relationship he has with one of City’s current squad members.
Rudiger names Man City player as his best mate in football

In a recent quick fire Q&A shared on the official Real Madrid TikTok channel, Rudiger named Mateo Kovacic when asked who his best friend in football is.
City signed the midfielder from fellow Premier League side Chelsea during the previous summer transfer window in a deal worth £30m.
Since then, the Croatian, who is picking up a weekly wage of £150k-per-week, has made 37 appearances for the Citizens across all competitions, scoring two goals and delivering one assist.
Rudiger knows Mateo Kovacic very well
Back in the 2022 summer transfer window, Real signed Rudiger from Chelsea as a free agent after he made 203 appearances for the Stamford Bridge outfit.
During their time together at the west London club, the pair featured in 118 games together across all competitions from the 2018/19 to 2021/22 seasons.
Even though the duo have both moved on from Chelsea to other sides in different countries, it’s nice to hear that Rudiger still considers Kovacic as his best friend in football.
Moving forward, next week will see City and Real battle it out again for a place in the semi-finals of the Champions League once the second leg tie kicks off at the Etihad Stadium.
Looking ahead to that big game for both sides, it will be interesting to see if the duo come face to face with each other again and if their friendship gets put on hold for another 90 minutes.
