‘Approached’: Saudi actually made huge proposal to land £55m Man City star right after UCL final – Romano

Manchester City superstar Kevin De Bruyne actually received a significant proposal from Saudi Arabia straight after the Champions League final with Inter.

The Belgian maestro is currently sidelined for City with a hamstring injury.

The latest setback came just a couple of months on from the Champions League final in Istanbul, in which De Bruyne was forced from the field early.

Thankfully, City were able to win the game and complete an historic Treble.

And interestingly not long after that game, De Bruyne actually received a lucrative proposal from Saudi, it has now been claimed.

Saudi Arabia made move to land Kevin De Bruyne after Manchester City won the Champions League

Fabrizio Romano has been speaking on his YouTube channel about players that declined moves to Saudi.

And it turns out De Bruyne was actually the subject of interest, before most players started to make the move.

Romano said: “Three important players said no to Saudi proposals. Many players, but I wanted to mention three in particular that were not that strong in the media. One was Kevin De Bruyne.

“There was a very important proposal from Saudi at the beginning, the very beginning of the summer transfer window. Right after the Champions League final, De Bruyne was approached by Saudi clubs, but he said ‘no thanks, at this moment of my career I want to continue in Europe and fight for titles at Manchester City’.”

Romano added that Robert Lewandowski and Ilkay Gundogan were also targets for Saudi clubs.

Gundogan, of course, completed a free transfer to Barcelona after his contract at City expired.

De Bruyne doesn’t need to make Saudi move

It is good that De Bruyne was not tempted to make a move to Saudi.

That is not a move he needs to make right now, and it’s not a move he ever really needs to make.

The £55 million man is paid extremely well at City, and he is absolutely idolised at the club.

Ideally De Bruyne will see out his career at the Etihad – latest reports have suggested there could be a good chance of him doing that.
