Arsenal star admits £50m Man City defender is the best player he’s ever played against

Arsenal star Leandro Trossard has admitted Manchester City full-back Kyle Walker is the best player he’s ever played against.

Walker has had a rather mixed bag of a season in 2023/24 so far, after assuming the captaincy from the departed Ilkay Gundogan.

The England international started off well enough but then saw his form really dip in the period just before the Club World Cup, when City went on a four-game winless run in the Premier League.

Just lately though, Walker has started to look like his usual self at right-back.

Despite some struggles this season, Walker is still highly regarded by fans, pundits and his fellow professionals, with Arsenal’s Leandro Trossard paying him a very big compliment…

Trossard sat down for an interview with Fubo when he made his admission about Walker.

The Belgium international has faced Walker eight times so far in his career (via Transfermarkt), and it ahs not been a particularly successful battle for 29-year-old.

Walker has six wins over Trossard, and Trossard has two over him – in the 2023 Community Shield when the Gunners won on penalties and in the Premier League game earlier this season at the Emirates.

Trossard admitted: “I think probably Kyle Walker is up there. He’s always really hard to play against.

Last month, Trossard’s fellow Arsenal winger Gabriel Martinelli also named Walker as one of his toughest opponents.

Nathan Redmond called Walker a ‘nightmare’ to come up against, while Willian also named Walker as one of his toughest opponents.

Walker must be so hard to play against

So we have yet another player talking about how hard it is to play against Walker.

It is understandable that many attacking players mention his name when it comes to tough opponents they come up against.

£50 million star Walker just has it all. He has blistering pace which makes it so hard for anybody to get past him, and that pace also allows him to recover and bail City out of sticky situations.

Walker is also very strong, so his combination of pace and power is just scary.

But Walker has also come up leaps and bounds since Pep Guardiola brought him to City and he now has high levels of tactical intelligence, making him a truly fearsome full-back.
