Journalist Graeme Bailey has claimed that it is very likely Bernardo Silva will stay at Manchester City this summer.

The midfielder has been linked with a move away from the Manchester club in recent weeks having attracted interest from the likes of Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Al-Hilal.

With the Citizens offering the 28-year-old a new deal to try and keep him at the Etihad Stadium, one journalist has shared some behind-the-scenes details on the matter.

Speaking in a recent edition of the Talking Transfers podcast, Bailey had this to say about the current situation surrounding Silva.

He said: “They thought they had priced him out the market. They said ‘we will let you go at £80m,’ but then PSG said ‘actually, we’ll pay that,’ and suddenly Barcelona are back in the money again with [Ousmane] Dembele leaving, [Franck] Kessie leaving etc, suddenly Barcelona could actually come up with some sort of deal to get Silva.

“So off the back of that, City have just, this week, we understand Silva told Guardiola again that he wants to leave but City are being very firm saying ‘look, we just can’t afford to let you go.’

“As its stands, it’d be a major shock if City bent to that will. It’d make no sense for Silva to go now and I think City realise that and I think Silva is probably realising that now.

“So he wants to leave but hey, an extra few thousand pounds a week might come in handy. If he does stay he will sign a new deal but as it stands, very likely he stays even though Barcelona are making a push.”

Since arriving at the Manchester club back in 2017 in a deal worth £43m, the 28-year-old has made 307 appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side across all competitions, scoring 55 goals, delivering 59 assists and winning five Premier League titles in the process.

Having featured in all but six of City’s matches across their treble-winning season last term, this and the fact that the club have offered him a new deal shows how vital he is for them and why they are so keen to keep him at the Etihad Stadium.

Now that Bailey has said that City’s stance has led to Silva accepting that it could be the best option for him to stay where he is and even sign a new deal at the club, if this ends up being the case and the Portuguese international pledges his future to the Citizens, this will be a massive boost for everyone connected to City.
