Manchester City are currently not considering selling Bernardo Silva during the current summer transfer window.
The Manchester club had reportedly put a £70m price tag on the midfielder to ward off interest from the likes of Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Al-Hilal who have their eyes on the City star.
Now though, one journalist has shared some details on the current situation, specifically regarding what the Manchester club’s current stance is on the player.
City not selling Silva
Speaking in a recent edition of the Talking Transfers podcast, Bailey had this to say on the matter.
He said: “They basically have said to him ‘you cant go,’ but they’re not just saying that, they’re not saying ‘you can’t go, get on with it, see you later,’ they are prepared to offer him one of the biggest contracts in the Premier League, they’re willing to put him on terms with [Kevin] De Bruyne and [Erling] Haaland, probably double his money, if not more and you can’t argue he’s probably worth that.
“They’re hoping that the increased terms on offer will persuade him to stay for another couple of years at least.
“You just get a sense of how important he is even though he’s saying to City ‘I want to go,’ I think they realise that with [Riyad] Mahrez gone, [Ilkay] Gundogan gone, they can’t lose another one from that midfield department.
“As good as De Bruyne, and [Phil] Foden and maybe [Mateo] Kovacic coming in, they just can’t afford to lose Silva.
“As it stands now, they’re not going to let him go.”
City signed the Portuguese international back in the 2017 summer transfer window from AS Monaco in a deal worth a reported fee of £43m.
Since then, the midfielder has gone on to make 306 appearances for City across all competitions, scoring 55 goals, delivering 59 assists and winning numerous trophies along the way.
This hasn’t been the first time the former Monaco star has been linked with a move away from the Etihad Stadium as last summer saw him mentioned with Barcelona, only for him to decide to stay where he is.
Described as an “exceptional” player by Pep Guardiola, the 28-year-old showed how important he is for the team during their treble-winning campaign last season as he appeared in all but six of their games in all competitions.
With that in mind, it’s easy to see why the club are keen to keep hold of Silva and potentially see him sign a new deal with them.
