Ally McCoist was left stunned by Ederson on Tuesday night as Manchester City recorded a 3-1 win in the UEFA Champions League.

The 60-year-old expressed his bewilderment while speaking live on commentary duty for TNT Sports alongside Darren Fletcher.

So, what did Ally McCoist say about Ederson? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, the Brazil international almost made a huge mistake in the 49th minute when he decided to come racing out of his goal, before pulling off an audacious flick to Ruben Dias under pressure from Cherif Ndiaye.

The Red Star Belgrade No.9 managed to get a slight touch on the ball, and had his tackle been a bit stronger, Manchester City surely would have found themselves 2-1 down as the £34.7m glovesman’s goalmouth was left vacant.

After watching the risky decision from Ederson, McCoist said: “I’ll tell you what, that’s astonishing. He’s taken a chance. I would actually love to know what Guardiola really thinks of that.”

The TNT Sports cameras then hilariously cut to a shot of the 52-year-old’s reaction, where he looked highly stressed by his No.31’s actions.

Fortunately, Ederson did not cost his side a goal with the audacious flick – it would have been a terrible time to concede, having only just found an equaliser through Julian Alvarez.

Manchester City fans and Guardiola must accept Ederson madness

While the South American’s actions can cause panic amongst Manchester City fans at times, his unique playing style is imperative to how Guardiola prefers his side to set up.

The Spaniard wants a high line, so Manchester City can squeeze opponents back and put immense pressure on them inside their own half.

That doesn’t happen if Ederson himself is not adopting a position well away from his goalmouth, so Manchester City fans will simply have to accept the stressful manner in which the 30-year-old operates.
