Saudi Arabian club, Al-Ahli, will be meeting with Manchester City in the next couple of days to discuss a potential transfer deal for Riyad Mahrez.
It was reported last month that the Saudi side are interested in signing the winger this summer following his treble-winning season with the Citizens.
Now though, a big development has been made in regards to the club’s pursuit of the City star.
Al-Ahli to meet with City over Mahrez transfer
In a recent Twitter post, journalist Rudy Galetti had this to say on the matter.
He said: “#Mahrez, within 2 days #AlAhli will meet #ManCity to discuss his transfer. The [Saudi Arabian] club will push hard to convince the [English] team to let him go at any cost.
“The aim is to close the meeting with an agreement with #MCFC. Personal terms already agreed with the [Algerian].”
Back in the 2018 summer transfer window, the Manchester club spent £60m to sign the 32-year-old, who Pep Guardiola previously said has “special quality,” from Leicester City.
Since then, the attacker has made 236 appearances for the European champions across all competitions, scoring 78 goals and delivering 59 assists, in addition to winning numerous trophies.
Even though he appeared in 47 matches for City last season, the Algerian found himself not being in the starting XI for some of their biggest games such as the FA Cup and Champions League finals.
This could be a reason why Mahrez would be open to joining Al-Ahli and having a new experience elsewhere if he’d be guaranteed to be a regular starter.
However, if the club want to keep hold of the attacker, they may have a job on their hands to convince him to stay at the Etihad Stadium and help the Citizens to continue their domestic dominance in terms of winning trophies.
