Burnley coach Mike Jackson has shared his thoughts on Manchester City and the upcoming Premier League match between the two sides.

With Vincent Kompany managing to win promotion back to the Premier League in his first season in charge of the Lancashire club, next month’s opening league game of the season will see Pep Guardiola’s treble winners travel to Turf Moor to kick their season off against Burnley.

Even though this clash is just over four weeks away, one member of Kompany’s coaching staff has been speaking about what lies ahead for the Clarets.

Speaking in an interview with Sky Sports, Jackson had this to say when asked if he thinks Burnley can get their season off to a bright start by picking up a result against the reigning Premier League titles.

He said: “Do I think we’ll surprise City? I don’t know. You’re talking probably the best club in the world at this moment in time.

“It’s a privilege to be in that league but you can’t see it as just making up the numbers, you’ve earned the right to be there so try and improve and try and get better and try and develop while you’re in it as well.”

To highlight how much of an impressive season Burnley had in the Championship, they ended up winning 29 of their 46 league games, drawing 14 and losing three.

Across those games, they scored more goals (87) and conceded fewer (35) than any other side in the division.

Even though they’re taking the step up back to the Premier League and will be starting their campaign against the toughest side in the country to play against, the Burnley players should be heading into this game full of confidence, excitement and belief that they can get their season off to a flying start.

However, with the Citizens undoubtedly set to be on the hunt to regain their league title, they’ll want to get their campaign off to a strong start and depending on their fitness levels and which players they have available, they’ll definitely be the favourites to win this match.
