Aymeric Laporte has responded to a recent social media post from former Manchester City star David Silva announcing his retirement from football.

Earlier today, the 37-year-old shared a post on his official Twitter account revealing that he will be walking away from professional football after suffering a complex anterior cruciate ligament injury in his left knee whilst training with his current club Real Sociedad.

Not long after this post hit social media, one current City player shared his response with just one word to sum up the midfielder.

In a quote tweet to Silva’s post, Laporte wrote the word “leyenda”, which translates from Spanish to the word ‘legend’ in English.

The veteran spent 10 years at City between 2010 and 2020, during which he made 436 appearances across all competitions, scoring 77 goals and delivering 140 assists along the way.

In addition to those goals and assists, the Spaniard won four Premier League titles, two FA Cups and five League Cups.

He even went on to win the Spanish Cup in his first season with Sociedad after leaving the Etihad Stadium.

Having been honoured with a statue outside the Etihad Stadium once he left the Manchester club, this all highlights how much he means to the Citizens and why Laporte, quite rightly, has called him a legend.

Having played in 66 matches for City with the defender in the team, they even racked up two joint goal participations.

Given the unfortunate manner in which Silva has had to announce his retirement after such a glistening career for club and country, it’s no surprise that Laporte and other players that have featured alongside the midfielder throughout his time in top-level football have been sending their heartfelt messages to him.
