‘Baller’: £80m PL star admits Manchester City player is his toughest opponent, Pep bid for him on deadline day

Ebere Eze has revealed that Manchester City No.20 Bernardo Silva is the toughest opponent he’s faced throughout his career.

The Crystal Palace No.10 made the comment when speaking to the Premier League on YouTube as part of a video for EA FC 24.

So, what did Ebere Eze say about Bernardo Silva? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, it doesn’t surprise us to hear the England international choose the Portugal international as his toughest opponent, as the 29-year-old is a remarkable footballer.

When asked for his most challenging opponent, Eze simply said: “Bernardo Silva. Bernardo Silva yeah. Baller, man.”

The £16m Crystal Palace man has only played against Silva on two occasions, so the Lisbon-born maestro must have made a real impact in those games.

Manchester City won both of these clashes against Eze’s Crystal Palace with an aggregate scoreline of 8-2.

Eze actually assisted one of those strikes for Crystal Palace in last season’s 4-2 win for the Citizens at the Etihad Stadium, whipping in a corner for Joachim Andersen to nod home.

Manchester City tried to sign Ebere Eze

Interestingly, Eze and Silva could have been teammates at the Etihad Stadium this season.

According to the Mirror, Manchester City made a £60m bid for the 25-year-old on deadline day, but Pep Guardiola missed out as Crystal Palace stuck to their £80m valuation.

It was always going to be difficult to sign Eze so late in the window after the south Londoners had lost Wilfried Zaha over the summer, especially as there would have been no time for Roy Hodgson to sign a replacement either.

However, the London-born playmaker will only have 12 months remaining on his contract at Selhurst Park at the end of this season, so if he rejects a new deal, a cut-price deal could be on.

Will Manchester City reignite interest in Eze in 2024? Only time will tell.
