Barcelona reportedly don’t want to have an option to buy Joao Cancelo from Manchester City included in their proposed loan deal for the player.

Earlier this week, it was reported that a loan deal for the right-back could contain an obligation to purchase him permanently for a fee of €25m (£21m), which would be triggered if the Spanish club get through to the knockout stage of the next Champions League tournament.

However, some fresh behind-the-scenes details have emerged regarding this particular transfer deal.

According to a recent report from Marca, Barcelona don’t want to be tied down to potentially having to pay to sign Cancelo beforE the end of the season.

The report also adds that the La Liga side would rather wait until the end of the season to decide whether they want to give the defender back to City or negotiate a fresh deal with the Manchester club to keep hold of him.

City signed the Portuguese international back in the 2019 summer transfer window from Juventus in a deal worth £60m.

Having fallen out of favour with Pep Guardiola back in January, the full-back spent the second half of last season on loan at Bayern Munich, resulting in him not being involved in City’s treble victories.

The fact that Guardiola revealed that the club were so desperate to get rid of him in the winter that they would have even sold him to Manchester United and the fact that he hasn’t been in the squad at all this season shows how eager they are to move him on again this summer, presumably with the preference being on a permanent basis.

With that in mind, it doesn’t seem likely that City would be too pleased if Barcelona don’t want to buy him permanently this summer or have an obligation to do so in a loan deal.
