Barcelona have reportedly now come up with a new proposal in the hope of landing Joao Cancelo from Manchester City, amid their poor financial situation.
Cancelo is a top target for the Spanish giants, after he impressed on loan there last season.
Cancelo was a regular feature under Xavi, and played mainly at left-back. But he is wanted back by club president Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco, with new manager Hansi Flick also backing a fresh move for the Portugal international.
Barca are Cancelo’s only real choice.
His desire to rejoin them makes the situation complicated for City, with the player not in Pep Guardiola‘s plans for the future.
Cash-strapped Barca can’t buy Cancelo in this window. But they have come up with a new proposal which they hope City will accept.
Barcelona make loan with obligation to buy offer worth £25m for Joao Cancelo

City fans hoping for a renaissance for Cancelo at City are probably going to be disappointed.
Since what happened in the middle of the 2022/23 season, there have been no indications that the player will be reintegrated by Pep.
The manager does not want the player in his squad, and it was claimed earlier today that he is not going to join up with City for their pre-season tour of the US.
Seemingly, the hope is that Cancelo’s exit will be facilitated while the rest of the squad are in the States.
According to the Daily Star, Barcelona have now come up with a fresh proposal to try and sign Cancelo.
They are apparently ready to offer to take Cancelo on loan for the 2024/25 season and pay City £7 million that spell. They would then agree to an £18 million obligation to buy. So that would be £25 million in total.
It is also stated that Barcelona would cover the entirety of his wages.
A decent offer if true

If this is true, then City officials have something to consider.
Ultimately, Pep – despite branding him ‘exceptional’ in the past – doesn’t want Cancelo and the player doesn’t want to stay. So it is all about the club getting the best deal possible.
A total fee of £25 million would not be too bad, even if the bulk of that will come next summer.
As long as City negotiate an obligation to buy, as opposed to an option, then that would be a decent deal all things considered.
Yes, he may have cost an initial £60 million (that fee was offset by the £34m sale of Danilo, via BBC Sport). But the situation is what it is and City just cannot hope to sell him for massive money.
