Barcelona are reportedly convinced they have all but wrapped up a summer transfer deal for Ilkay Gundogan.

As things stand, the Manchester City captain is set to see his current contract with the Citizens expire at the end of this month.

With the 32-year-old set to lead his side out in tomorrow’s FA Cup final and next weekend’s Champions League final, it has been claimed that these could well be his final games for the club.

Barcelona closing in on Gundogan deal

According to a recent report from Sport, Barcelona have persuaded Gundogan to put pen to paper on a three-year deal with the Spanish club.

The report also adds that despite City’s efforts of getting the midfielder to sign a new deal at the Etihad, Xavi has played a big part in seeing Barcelona make their offer to the player.

City signed the midfielder back in 2016 from Borussia Dortmund in a deal worth a reported fee of £20m.

Since then, Gundogan has gone on to make 302 appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side across all competitions, scoring 58 goals and delivering 40 assists in the process.

Having featured in 31 of City’s 38 Premier League games this season, as well as starting 11 of their 12 Champions League matches, this highlights how important the veteran has been for the team.

In fact, with Guardiola sharing his hopes of seeing Gundogan sign a new deal and continuing his journey with the Citizens, this latest report will not be good news for the manager.

Although, with the club reportedly in talks over a potential summer move for Mateo Kovacic, this could be in case their current midfielder leaves the Etihad.

Either way, we feel that if Gundogan does end up leaving City this summer, it will be a big blow for them.
