Manchester City began their latest Champions League campaign on Wednesday night with a clash against 2023 finalists Inter Milan.
City headed into this game at the Etihad Stadium having won all four of their opening Premier League games of the season.
Despite that, the match ended with a 0-0 draw despite Pep Guardiola’s side having 60% possession and 22 attempts at goal in total.
Now though, one pundit has shared some insight into one thing that caught his attention in the game.

Chris Sutton says one thing Inter Milan did against Man City surprised him
In a recent column for BBC Sport, Chris Sutton said this about City’s midweek draw and the one aspect of it that surprised him from Inter’s point of view.
He said: “Inter Milan showed on Wednesday that you can hurt City at the same time as keeping them quiet, and they were very brave with the way they were playing out.
“They surprised me actually because they beat City’s press very easily.”
Inter will be pleased with the result against City
Despite not having as much possession as the hosts, Inter still managed to register 13 attempts at City’s goal, four of which were on target and eight of which came from inside the Manchester club’s penalty box.
Having also racked up fewer passes than the Blues (376 vs 597), this highlights how well the Serie A side did in terms of being able to attack City’s goal despite not having the ball as much as their opponents.
Taking all of that on board, it’s easy to see why Sutton was so surprised with how capable the Italian side were in terms of dealing with City’s pressure and being a threat going forward.
