Matheus Nunes has said that he used to love watching former Manchester City midfielder, David Silva, in action.
The 25-year-old joined City towards the end of the recent summer transfer window from Wolves in a deal worth £53m.
Having had his first few appearances in Pep Guardiola’s side, the Portuguese international has been looking back at some of City’s former midfield players and picked one out that he particularly enjoyed watching.
Nunes says he loved watching Silva
Speaking in a recent video published on the club’s official YouTube channel, Nunes had this to say about Silva.
He said: “El Mago, no? That’s how they called him here. The control, the ball was very, every time, it was close to his feet. The control that he has on the ball, it’s beautiful to watch actually.”
During his 10 years at City, the Spaniard made 436 appearances for the club across all competitions, scoring 77 goals, delivering 140 assists and winning four Premier League titles along the way.
Back in 2017, Thierry Henry labelled Silva as the best creative midfielder the Premier League has ever seen, praising the way he continued to play in the same manner yet his opponents were still unable to contain him from impacting games and being an attacking threat.
Pep Guardiola also had his praise for the former City star by saying in 2020 that he is the best player he has ever seen in terms of being able to work in small spaces on the ball, which backs up Nunes’ point about Silva having great control of the ball.
Moving forward, if the summer recruit can deliver similar sort of performances for City as Silva did during his time at the club, he’ll undoubtedly become a fan favourite and an important team figure.
