Manchester City are reportedly on the verge of securing a transfer deal for one of England’s top youth prospects.
The Manchester club have not been shy when it comes to spending significant amounts of money on players to help strengthen their senior team.
Now though, the Citizens have their eyes set on securing a player who may well go on to become an important first-team figure for them.
City close to signing Fletcher
In a recent Twitter post, Fabrizio Romano said this on the matter.
He said: “Understand Manchester City are closing in on the signing of 16-year-old talented striker Luca Fletcher from Reading.
“Medical passed and paperwork being signed — been told fee around £600k with future add-ons. Part of City project to sign and develop the best young talents.”
It was reported back in May that City had set their sights on signing Fletcher, who had also picked up interest from fellow Premier League clubs West Ham United and Brighton & Hove Albion.
Despite only being 16, the striker has already had his first taste of U18 football as he made a 20-minute cameo for Reading’s youth side back in May 2021.
The teenager has also appeared in nine international friendlies with England’s U16s where he has scored five goals and delivered one assist in the process.
With City’s U18 side winning their fourth consecutive Premier League North title back in April, their move for Fletcher shows how eager they are to strengthen their side and keep their winning record going for as long as possible.
Moving forward, if City end up securing this proposed deal for the Reading youngster and he can hit the ground running in terms of becoming a consistent goalscorer in the youth ranks at the Manchester club, he could open up a path for himself to one day become a prominent figure in the first team at some point in the future.
