Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has said that Manchester United could have signed Manchester City megastar Erling Haaland during his time in charge.

In an interview with The Athletic, the Norwegian coach reflected on his time at the club.

One of the signings Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said Manchester United missed out on was none other than Erling Haaland.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says Manchester United could have signed Erling Haaland before RB Salzburg debut

Branded as ‘phenomenal’ by the Daily Mail, the £51.2 million (Eurosport) is now widely considered as the best striker in the world.

So much so that Kolo Toure believes that the 23-year-old’s height and brute force adds a ‘different dimension’ to City in comparison to when Sergio Aguero was at the club, as they can lump the ball up to him.

Now, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has briefly admitted that Erling Haaland could well have become a Manchester United player.

“Erling Haaland, before he made his Salzburg debut”, he said is one of the players United missed out on during his time in charge.

Considering the pair worked together at Molde, it was heavily rumoured that Haaland could sign for the Red Devils a couple of years ago.

Erling Haaland should be happy how things panned out for him

Ultimately, former Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was not reunited with Erling Haaland, who went to develop at RB Salzburg and Borussia Dortmund before making his blockbuster move to Manchester City.

It’s safe to say that the manner in which Haaland’s career has mapped out has been perfect, as he has taken his time to hone his talent and become the best goalscorer in the world, as well as a treble-winner.

At Manchester United, the chaos around the club coupled with their shoddy recruitment and lack of clear tactical framework is not the best environment for any young player.

Perhaps a generational talent like Erling Haaland would also have been affected by the sheer mess that continues to be on full display in the red side of Manchester.
