Mikel Arteta has said that Manchester City’s recent success has not just been because of their financial spending.
The Manchester club ended their previous season by winning their fifth Premier League title in six years as well as lifting the FA Cup and their first Champions League.
Having been a part of City’s success during Pep Guardiola’s reign by being a part of the Spaniard’s coaching staff between 2016 and 2019, the Arsenal manager has shared his thoughts on the Citizens’ more recent title victories.
Arteta says City’s success is down to more than money

Speaking in a recent interview with British GQ, Arteta had this to say about City winning the treble and the way in which they did it.
He said: “You don’t do that with money, believe me. There’s a lot of right decisions [and] being so demanding and so clever in certain moments. Money cannot buy everything.”
In terms of money spent across the 2022/23 season, the Manchester club had an expenditure of €152m (£131m), with an income of €162m (£139m), leaving them with a positive balance of €9m (£7m), making them one of the four Premier League clubs that made a profit.

This shows that while the club are able to spend money, they are also capable of making it back by selling players.
Having also been able to beat Arteta’s side to the Premier League title last season after seeing the Gunners spend the majority of the campaign in the top spot, before winning the FA Cup and Champions League finals, this shows that the sort of fight, determination and character to fight to the end of each competition cannot be purchased.
Moving forward, with both City and Arsenal spending money in this current summer transfer window, it’s safe to say that both sides will once again be fighting it out to be crowned as the champions of England.
