Benjamin Pavard holds talks with Man United despite interest from Man City

Reported Manchester City transfer target, Benjamin Pavard, has held talks with Manchester United over a potential summer move.

Earlier this month, it was claimed that the Citizens are one of the clubs interested in signing the 27-year-old.

Now though, a fresh update has emerged regarding Pavard, but one that doesn’t make City’s chances of signing him look particularly strong.

According to a recent report from 90 Min, United have held conversations with Pavard’s representatives after the defender indicated his desire to leave Bayern.

The report also adds that City, as well as Liverpool, Inter Milan, Real Madrid and Barcelona still have an interest in signing the Frenchman.

Back in January 2019, Bayern revealed they had secured a deal for the defender from VfB Stuttgart, who would then go on to join the club in the following summer.

Since then, the France international has made 162 appearances for the Bundesliga champions across all competitions, scoring 12 goals and delivering 12 assists in the process.

This latest season saw the defender feature in all but six of Bayern’s games, playing in the centre-back and right-back positions, highlighting how important he has been for them at the back.

In fact, Pavard racked up a higher combined total of tackles and interceptions (114) than any other defender at Bayern in the league.

His overall league performances earned the Frenchman a season rating of 7.17/10 from WhoScored, making him the sixth-highest rated player in the Bayern squad.

With all of that in mind, it’s easy to see why so many top clubs have set their sights on signing him and why United seem to have already made the first move in doing so.

In our view, unless any of City’s current defensive options end up leaving the club over the summer, we feel that even though he’s had an impressive season, securing a deal for Pavard doesn’t need to be a top priority for the Premier League champions.
