Bernardo Silva has shared his praise for the Manchester City fans and the atmosphere they created during Wednesday’s 4-0 win over Real Madrid in the Champions League.

The 28-year-old scored two goals in the first half of the semi-final second-leg clash at the Etihad Stadium, helping his side secure their place in the final next month.

Once the game ended, the Portuguese international revealed one off-field aspect that had an impact on the match.

Speaking to the club’s media after the game, Silva said this about the home support.

He said: “They were unbelievable, they always are when we need them. They know how tough this competition is and they know how frustrating it has been over the last few years, to not achieve what we want in this competition.

“They’ve been with us, they’re always with us. A massive thank you to them. And once again they showed their appreciation to us, the players, the staff, the team. We’re so happy to give them back this opportunity to be in the final. Hopefully, this year we can change the outcome of what happened two years ago.”

Spanish media outlet Marca mentioned the atmosphere at the Etihad in their report of the game, suggesting that it helped stop the visitors from mounting a potential comeback.

This shows that it wasn’t just the City players on the pitch, like Silva, that were impacted by the ambience in the stadium created by the energised home fans, who were treated to a stunning display of footballing excellence.

Moving forward, with the final against Inter Milan in mind, if the City fans can replicate the atmosphere they delivered last night in Istanbul, they will give their side a boost towards potentially lifting the trophy.
