Robbie Earle has said that Manchester City defender John Stones was the standout player for in his side’s 1-0 win against Inter Milan in the Champions League final.

The outspoken pundit focused on the £47.5 million (Sky Sports) man’s performance on NBC Sports’ The 2 Robbies podcast.

While Rodri grabbed the headlines with the winner for Manchester City against Inter Milan, Robbie Earle believes no player managed to outperform John Stones on the night.

Robbie Earle says John Stones was the best player on the pitch as Manchester City beat Inter Milan

Stan Collymore held the same opinion, as the England international was typically mesmeric in his hybrid role, as he played as a right-back out of possession and a No.8 on the ball.

The 29-year-old’s silky dribbling especially caught the eye, as he beat defenders for fun to create chances for his teammates, with Manuel Akanji joking that he ‘played like Maradona’ on Saturday.

Robbie Earle lauded John Stones’ display, as Manchester City defeated Inter Milan to win the treble and etch their names into the history books once again.

“John Stones, what a confident performance it was. He went off a little later, didn’t he? He was pretty exhausted later on but wow, I thought he was the best player on the pitch actually. He looked like he was head and shoulders, in terms of his confidence, his ability, his size, his physical…yeah, Stones was amazing.”

Strong argument to suggest that John Stones was the Man of the Match

Robbie Earle is anything but incorrect in his summation about John Stones’ wondrous display, as he really did stand out for Manchester City against Inter Milan.

The same can be said for the likes of Ruben Dias and Ederson Morares, who were incredible on the night as well.

Considering a number of City players looked far from their assured selves, fair play to Stones for not just putting in an ice-cool performance but taking such huge risks and coming out on top, as his dribbling against the Italians was reminiscent of a seasoned midfielder.
