Kyle Walker grabbed his first ever international goal yesterday evening, as England played out a 1-1 draw with Ukraine.

The Three Lions’ 100% winning record in qualifying came to an end, but Gareth Southgate’s side are still in a commanding position in their group.

It was Arsenal’s Oleksandr Zinchenko – formerly of City, of course – who gave Ukraine the lead in the game.

The 26-year-old finished off a nice sweeping move, arriving late in the box to score beyond Jordan Pickford.

But it was Walker who was the unlikely source of an equaliser for England.

Harry Kane picked the ball up in a very deep position and clipped a lovely ball over the defence for the onrushing Walker to control and finish.

After the game, the City man came in for praise on Channel 4…

Jill Scott lauds Kyle Walker after Man City star scores first England goal

After the game, Walker’s goal was analysed by pundits on Channel 4; Jill Scott, Joe Cole and Andriy Shevchenko.

Scott gave a particularly positive verdict, suggesting the 33-year-old had been the best player.

She said: “I felt Kyle Walker was probably our best player tonight, even apart from the goal. Just his tracking back – I swear he gets faster! He’s as quick as 21-year-old, and his fitness levels are through the roof.

“I thought he was England’s best player tonight.”

Walker was a perfect match up for Ukraine’s left winger Mykhailo Mudryk, who of course players for Chelsea.

Mudryk is a very quick player, but £160,000-a-week star Walker gave him very little.

Walker’s goal came just days after he wowed his teammates with an amazing effort in training.

Great to see Kyle Walker shine for England

In recent times there has been of debate about the right-back position for England.

But Walker is still the best option to play there ahead of Reece James, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Kieran Trippier.

Hopefully, Walker will be able to continue this good form for City when he returns after the international break.

Ideally, he will not feature too much against Scotland on Tuesday though, so that he comes back to City feeling relatively fresh.
