A new name has emerged at Manchester City as Hugo Viana targets more signings for Pep Guardiola.
An approach has been made to sign Denzel Dumfries from Inter Milan as the Citizens search for a new right-back, after Kyle Walker left to join Burnley.
However, the Netherlands international is not the only right-back to have been linked with a move to the Etihad Stadium this summer, and the timing of this news should interest Everton fans after a recent story from Gianluca Di Marzio involving Wesley.
Wesley could be heading to Everton as Manchester City open Denzel Dumfries talks
The Brazil international could be heading to Merseyside.
Earlier this week, it was said that Everton had started work on a £26m deal to sign Wesley from Flamengo, despite the fact the South American already met with Manchester City and expressed a desire to join.
As a result, this seemed like an ambitious move for Everton.
However, the fact Manchester City have now started speaking to Dumfries about the chance to replace Walker suggests Viana is moving away from Wesley in his hunt for a new right-back, opening the door for Everton to have a free run at the Brazilian’s signature.
Denzel Dumfries could prove to be a bargain
It was Football Transfers who claimed that Manchester City want to sign the Dutchman, and he could actually be available for less than Wesley, despite being able to boast far greater experience than the 21-year-old.
It is said that the Inter Milan No.2 – who has ten goals in 65 games for the Netherlands – can be signed for just €25m (£21.6m) before July 15th thanks to a release clause, which feels a bargain for a defender who scored 11 goals and provided six assists in 47 appearances last season.
Of course, Guardiola would presumably like a younger option who he can develop – Dumfries turns 30 in April – but for just over £20m, this deal seems like one worth doing, even more so given the lack of options in the right-back department.
