Manchester City had a handful of players in action on international duty on Thursday night.
While the majority of the European contingent in City’s squad have been featuring in the Nations League over previous months, their two South American players featured in a recent World Cup qualifying match.
Specifically, Ederson and Savinho started in Brazil’s 1-1 draw with Venezuela, with the goalkeeper completing the full 90 minutes and the winger being brought off in the 68th minute.
Raphinha put Brazil 1-0 after 43 minutes only for Telasco Segovia to score in the first minute of the second half.
Not long after that, Vinicius Junior – who Rodri beat to the 2024 Ballon d’Or – missed a penalty that would have put his side back ahead.
Once the game ended, the Brazilian media were not shy in sharing their thoughts on how the away side’s players performed, including the two City stars.

Ederson and Savinho player ratings from Brazil vs Venezuela
After the final whistle, Brazilian media outlet, Globo, gave these verdicts about the individual performances of Ederson and Savinho.
Ederson – 6.5/10
“He caused a few scares in the game with his feet, but he managed to recover and made important saves from those same mistakes. Despite the risk, he helps a lot in the fast exits and in leading counterattacks. He was not to blame for the goal.”
Savinho – 6/10
“There was a lot of movement and willingness to participate in the game, but it wasn’t as active as in the October games. Brazil used the left side more, but still appeared well to make a great pass for Vini to hit the post.”
A tough night for Ederson and Savinho
Focusing on Ederson first, the 31-year-old made three saves in total throughout the game, as well as making one high claim but also making an error that led to Venezuela having a shot at goal.
Despite having a penchant for distribution, only 16 of the 26 passes he made found their intended target, giving him an overall pass accuracy percentage of 62%.
Then with Savinho, who has yet to score a goal for Pep Guardiola’s side since making his £33m move to the Etihad Stadium back in July, the winger had 35 touches of the ball before being subbed off for Luiz Henrique.
Even though he made two key passes and created one big chance, the 20-year-old failed to register even one shot at goal for Brazil, which, in a way, sums up his general start to the season for City.
