Brennan Johnson has heaped praise on Manchester City right-back Kyle Walker.

The Welshman told Inside Spurs about his experience of facing Walker during his side’s 3-3 draw against City.

The £175,000-a-week (Sport Rac) man seems to be getting a lot of praise for his outstanding defending recently, with Willian also admitting that he is the toughest opponent he has ever come up against in his career.

Darren Bent also claimed that the 33-year-old remains England’s most important player.

Brennan Johnson has now reflected on the time he went toe-to-toe with Manchester City stalwart Kyle Walker at the Etihad Stadium recently.

“I started on the right and Bryan [Gil] started on the left and at half-time, we made the change. It’s kind of just something you get chucked into, the first few balls you get from Destiny [Udogie] or Ben [Davies], you get a feel for how someone wants to defend or just playing in the game you can see how they move.”

“Obviously, Kyle Walker is an unbelievable defender, everyone knows about him, so I definitely had to be on it if I wanted to get anything out of him. But I felt confident on the left when I was running with the ball and to get the assist at the end was a good feeling”, Johnson told Inside Spurs.

Kyle Walker is elite but he should have done better for Dejan Kulusevski’s goal

Brennan Johnson, much like any and everyone who has watched the Premier League over the years realises what a top defender Kyle Walker is.

Despite being on the wrong side of 30, one would rightly back the Englishman to keep most, if not every winger in the world quiet more often than not.

However, against Spurs, much like his colleagues at the back, Kyle Walker did not cover himself in glory.

On the whole, at least defensively, the ageing right-back was largely untroubled against Ange Postecoglou and Co.

But in the build-up to Dejan Kulusevski’s late equaliser, the former Tottenham right-back failed to cut out Brennan Johnson’s cross into the box, which led to the goal.

Of course, Nathan Ake was perhaps the biggest culprit for not checking his shoulders and spotting the Swedish international’s run, as he towered over him to score a bullet header past Ederson Moraes.

Ultimately, mistakes are part and parcel of football and for how much credit Kyle Walker has in the bank, it would be unnecessary to be too harsh on him.
