Manchester City are keen to sign Alessandro Bastoni from Inter Milan – a player who Thierry Henry is a big fan of.

It was Calciomercato who claimed that Pep Guardiola wants to buy the Italy international.

So, what has Thierry Henry said about Manchester City target Alessandro Bastoni? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, if the treble winners do manage to sign the £89,000-a-week man in 2024, any deal would presumably come with the iconic Frenchman’s approval.

Henry has previously lauded Bastoni for his ability to bring the ball out from the back, specifically praising the Italian after he grabbed an assist for Inter Milan in a UEFA Champions League clash against Benfica.

The 46-year-old told CBS Sports: “I love when a centre-back, playing in a back three, brings the ball out. I mean, what a delivery there. What a ball from Bastoni on to the head of Barella, who still has to do a lot to score. What a cross from Bastoni.”

Inter Milan’s No.95 has been a key man at the San Siro once again this season, making nine appearances in all competitions so far.

Talk of Guardiola wanting to sign Bastoni interestingly comes after Calciomercato claimed that Manchester City are looking at another Italy international in Giorgio Scalvini as well.

Alessandro Bastoni would suit Manchester City

As Henry states, the 24-year-old excels in a back three with his ability on the ball.

Guardiola has made a habit of structuring his backline with just three defenders nowadays, usually giving one license to roam into midfield, as John Stones did so effectively last season.

Therefore, Bastoni should have no issues adjusting to a three-man backline if he is signed by Manchester City in 2024, nor would he struggle to handle a midfield role given his technical ability.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as anything could happen.
