Leeds United defender, Luke Ayling, has claimed that Kevin De Bruyne will go down as the best midfielder the Premier League has ever seen.
The Manchester City star recently completed his eighth Premier League campaign with the club, picking up his fifth league title.
This has since led to one player, who faced off against the 31-year-old this season, sharing some high praise for the City star.
Ayling says De Bruyne will be seen as the best Premier League midfielder
Speaking in a recent video on the Sky Sports Premier League YouTube channel, Ayling said this about De Bruyne.
He said: “I mean you see what he does on the football pitch, it’s unreal, so I reckon by the time he’s done, I think you’ll look at him as the best midfielder in the Premier League.”
With 242 Premier League appearances under his belt, the midfielder, who City paid £55m to sign back in 2015, has scored 64 goals and delivered 105 assists.
His performances across the 32 league games he featured in this season earned the veteran an overall campaign rating of 7.58/10 from WhoScored, making him the highest-rated player in the entire division.
Taking that into account and the number of league titles he’s won, it’s easy to see why Ayling thinks De Bruyne will be considered as the best midfielder the Premier League has ever seen whenever he decides to call it a day at City.
In terms of being cemented as one of the best midfielders English football has seen, if the Belgian were to find himself being inducted in the Premier League’s Hall of Fame alongside the likes of Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard, Roy Keane and Paul Scholes, this would undoubtedly put him among the greats and make him a part of history.
