Callum Doyle to Wrexham has Manchester City fans all saying the same thing about £8m deal

Manchester City are close to selling Callum Doyle to Wrexham.

The Red Dragons – owned by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney – have agreed a fee of £8m for the City Football Academy graduate, who has never made a senior appearance at Manchester City.

It is an expensive deal for Wrexham – who have only just come up into the Championship from League One – but Manchester City fans actually think the Welsh outfit are getting themselves a bargain in Callum Doyle.

Manchester City fans say Callum Doyle is “easily a £15m player” as £8m Wrexham move nears

The Citizens are hardly struggling financially, but even still, Manchester City fans sound critical of Hugo Viana – Director of Football – for failing to negotiate a larger fee.

One Manchester City supporter wrote on X (previously known as Twitter): “Worth more, such a talented player.”

Another echoed that sentiment and added a bold statement, posting: “Worth more (and) will play for England one day.”

When you consider the fact the City Football Academy has previously produced the likes of Phil Foden, Cole Palmer, Rico Lewis, Romeo Lavia and Liam Delap, there is every chance Doyle – who Hoffenheim bid £6.5m for in June – could play for England soon.

A third Manchester City fan wrote: “Considering how well he (did) at Coventry and Sunderland, I always thought we’d eventually get £15m+ at the very least for him.”

On that note, £8m could prove to be a steal for Wrexham.

Another added: “Seems he has somehow lost value, easily a £15m player last season.”

Doyle will only have 12 months remaining on his Manchester City contract at the end of this season, so perhaps that has caused his value to take a hit.

A fifth Manchester City fan complained this is “far too cheap” a fee, and wrote that the 21-year-old defender is “worth double” the £8m sum.

Callum Doyle set to get his wish as Manchester City struggles come to an end

As a local lad, the Manchester-born central defender surely loves the Citizens, but he has already expressed some frustration at a lack of opportunities under Guardiola.

Back in May, Doyle said he wanted a permanent exit from Manchester City after a string of loans, telling The Pink Un: “I think (a permanent move) is the next aim. It’s my fourth loan. I’ve been all over the country.

“I’ve got nothing to say bad about this club (Norwich). I love it. I’ve loved playing here. The fans are great, so you never know (about a return). It just depends on what happens in the summer.”

Doyle now looks set to finally get his wish as a move to Wrexham looms.
