Guardiola will – of course – be without Rodri for the trip to Tyneside, after the Spain international picked up a straight red card in Saturday’s 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest.

Manchester City are also still without John Stones and Kevin De Bruyne – both of whom have missed most of the current campaign.

Mateo Kovacic and Bernardo Silva are also doubts for the clash against Newcastle United, having missed Saturday’s win over Nottingham Forest as well.

That means there could be a first start of the season for Kalvin Phillips in the absence of Rodri – the England international has only played 52 minutes of football across three substitute appearances this term.

Stefan Ortega is also expected to replace Ederson in between the sticks – the German was Guardiola’s No.1 for the domestic cup competitions last season, and actually started the FA Cup final win over Manchester United last term.
