Chairman says Man City do something completely unique to any other club

Manchester City have enjoyed a lot of success on the pitch in recent years.

For example, after winning the Treble in the 2022/23 season, Pep Guardiola’s side followed that up by becoming World Champions and securing a historic fourth consecutive Premier League trophy at the end of their previous campaign.

With the Citizens clearly having plenty of experience when it comes to being successful on the pitch, someone who knows all about what it takes to run a club has heaped praise on City for one particular thing they do behind the scenes.

Darragh MacAnthony hails Man City for outgoing transfer business

In a recent video shared on the talkSPORT YouTube channel, Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony had this to say about how City sell players following recent reports claiming that Atletico Madrid have agreed a deal worth around £82m to sign Julian Alvarez.

He said: “Do you know what I love about Man City, is there’s no player bigger than the club.

“Every year they sell players that most teams at the top wouldn’t sell. So, they look at Alvarez and he’s obviously gone to Pep and said I want to go. Pep is that manager who goes ‘Okay, no problem, let’s now do our best and do a deal.’

“But they never say, ‘No you’re not going anywhere and we’re going to keep you.’ If a player wants to go, they move them on quickly.

“And do you know what? In a year’s time when they’ve won another title or Champions League, they won’t even look back and think of them.”

City still stay at the top despite selling key players

In recent summer transfer windows since Guardiola took charge of the club, City have sold big-name players such as Leroy Sane, Ferran Torres, Gabriel Jesus, Raheem Sterling and Riyad Mahrez among others for substantial transfer fees.

Despite seeing so many top players leave the club, the Blues have still managed to continue being a dominant force on the pitch, as shown by the number of trophies they’ve won in recent years.
