Rodri has shared how his game has transformed under Pep Guardiola’s management at Manchester City.

The midfielder is in the early stages of his fifth Premier League season with the Manchester club, having helped his side win the treble at the end of their previous campaign.

Now though, the Spaniard has opened up about what it has been like to play under the City boss for such a long time and how he has changed as a result.

Speaking in a recent interview with the club’s official media, Rodri had this to say about the impact Guardiola has had on him during his time at City.

He said: “I think it is massive. I always say the same, but all of the coaches I have had in my career have changed me in a way and improved me in a way.

“Of course, Pep is the manager I have been with the longest, so he has changed me the most. I understood football in one way and he readapted the way I thought about football. I see many things that I never saw before. I am very happy and I enjoy every day that I am with him.”

Looking back over his first four seasons at City, you can see the areas where Rodri has improved and become more efficient.

For example, the number of progressive carries and the number of recoveries the midfielder has made in each Premier League campaign has increased, showing how adventurous he has been on the ball going forward and how effective he has been in terms of being in the right places to win the ball back for his side.

Having scored some vital goals for his side during his time at the club, most notably being the winning goal in the Champions League final back in June, this further showcases how much of vital figure he is for Guardiola.

Taking into account how prominent the Spaniard has been in Guardiola’s side this season and last season, it’s clear that he is definitely one of the first names on the teamsheet and has benefited massively from the coaching he’s had from the manager.
