Chelsea have now decided to sell Ian Maatsen – a player who Manchester City are said to be keen on signing.
That is according to TEAMtalk.
So, what is the situation involving Ian Maatsen and Manchester City? Let’s take a look…
Manchester City could sign Ian Maatsen
Well, it was 90min who claimed that Pep Guardiola is a fan of the Netherlands Under-21 international and would like to bring him to the Etihad Stadium.
A separate story from TEAMtalk added that Manchester City are keeping a very close eye on Maatsen as his contract expires at the end of the season.
Chelsea actually accepted a £31.5m bid from Burnley for the Dutchman on transfer deadline day – only for the player himself to reject the move – and the Telegraph believe the west Londoners have since made two contract offers to their academy graduate.

Now, those at Stamford Bridge have put Maatsen up for sale – according to TEAMtalk – which suggests these attempts to renew his contract have failed.
The Chelsea No.29 has made nine Premier League appearances under Mauricio Pochettino so far this season, after a successful loan spell at Burnley last term saw him make the 2022/23 Championship Team of the Year.
Ian Maatsen could allow Josko Gvardiol to shine at Manchester City
Since Josko Gvardiol made his £77.6m move from RB Leipzig back in August, the Croatian has come in for some criticism – Jamie Carragher is one of many pundits who have highlighted his troubles.
However, the Croatia international has been playing at left-back, away from his natural position as a central defender.

Therefore, if Maatsen, a natural left-back who can also play as an inverted option, arrives in January, it would allow Guardiola to move Gvardiol into the middle, next to Ruben Dias, John Stones, Nathan Ake or Manuel Akanji.
Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as Chelsea now decide to sell the 21-year-old.
