Chris Sutton has claimed that Ilkay Gundogan would be a big miss for Manchester City if he were to leave the club this summer.
With the midfielder’s contract set to expire at the end of next month, Gundogan has been linked with a move away from the Etihad Stadium as a free agent, with the likes of Barcelona and Arsenal reportedly looking at him.
This has since led to one pundit assessing the potential impact of seeing the 32-year-old bring an end to his time with Pep Guardiola’s side.
Sutton claims Gundogan would be a big loss for City

Speaking on the latest edition of 5 Live Sport’s The Monday Night Club podcast, Sutton said this about the German and the possibility of him leaving City this summer.
He said: “There’s talk about Gundogan leaving and Micah [Richards] knows Manchester City better than me but I think he’d be a massive, massive loss.”
Having made 301 appearances for the Manchester club across all competitions, during which he has scored 58 goals, provided 40 assists and won numerous domestic trophies, the midfielder lifted his first Premier League title as City’s captain over the weekend.
The veteran showed his worth to the team on the pitch in recent weeks as they secured their fifth league title in six years by scoring four goals and delivering one assist across City’s two games against Leeds United and Everton earlier this month.
With that in mind, as well as the fact that Guardiola has shared his hopes of seeing Gundogan continue his journey with the Citizens, we agree with Sutton that the midfielder’s potential summer exit would be a big blow for the club.
Therefore, we feel that City should do all they can behind the scenes to get the club captain to sign a new deal and continue to take the team forward.
