Pundit Chris Sutton has shared his prediction for Manchester City’s upcoming Premier League match against Tottenham Hotspur.

Following on from their 1-1 draw against Liverpool last weekend and their midweek victory over RB Leipzig in the Champions League, the Citizens are back in action on Sunday with a home league clash against Spurs.

Looking ahead to this big game, one pundit has shared his thoughts on how the match could pan out.

Written in his latest column for BBC Sport where he previewed all of this weekend’s top-flight fixtures, Sutton had this to say about Sunday’s showdown between City and Spurs.

He said: “I am expecting another really open game and Tottenham will create chances, like they did last weekend against [Aston] Villa. If they had taken them, they would have been out of sight by half-time.

“City will get loads of opportunities too, though – and they are just ruthless. That’s why I’m saying there are going to be a few goals, it’s just that Pep Guardiola’s side will get most of them.”

With 13 league games played, City are currently three places and three points ahead of Spurs in second place behind Arsenal at the top of the table.

Across those 13 games, Pep Guardiola’s side have scored 33 goals compared to Spurs’ 25 and conceded 13 compared to the north London side letting 17 goals in throughout the campaign.

With that in mind and the fact that Spurs have lost their three previous league games, conceding 10 goals in the process, and how City have the highest rate of goal-creating actions made per 90 minutes in the league this season (4.62), it’s easy to see why Sutton thinks the home side could score quite a few goals in this game.

Having dropped two points against Liverpool last weekend, which then allowed Arsenal to go top after their win over Brentford, the main objective this time around for City will be to get all three points, regardless of what the scoreline could look like.
