Claude Makelele has named Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva as the most intelligent player in the world right now.

Having played for some big clubs across Europe such as Real Madrid, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain, winning plenty of silverware along the way, the former midfielder knows what it takes to be a top-level player.

Now though, the Frenchman has been sharing his thoughts on some of today’s stars, with one City player, in particular, getting a special mention.

In a recent video shared on Goal’s official Tik Tok channel, Makelele was asked to build his ideal footballer by picking a current player based on their right foot, left foot, speed, strength and football intelligence.

When asked to pick a player with the best football IQ, the former Chelsea star chose Silva.

City signed the Portuguese international from Monaco back in the 2017 summer transfer window in a deal worth £43m.

Since then, the 29-year-old has gone on to make 339 appearances for the Manchester club across all competitions.

During his time at the Etihad Stadium, Silva has scored 63 goals, delivered 64 assists and won numerous trophies including five Premier League titles.

Back in 2022, Pep Guardiola praised the midfielder’s intelligence, which he said allows Silva to be able to play in numerous positions across the pitch, as he’s done on multiple occasions during his time with the Citizens.

This makes it easy to see why Makelele has picked the City star for his intelligence when creating his ideal player.

Taking into account how long he’s been at the club and what he’s done for the team in terms of the goals and assists he’s supplied, as well as being very highly thought of by his manager, it’s clear that he has been a top signing from City.
