Juventus have now held talks with the representatives of Kalvin Phillips – as the Italian giants aim to sign the Manchester City No.4 in January.

That is according to Calciomercato.

So, what is the latest on Kalvin Phillips at Manchester City? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, the Italian news outlet posted on X (previously known at Twitter) that a meeting was held in London on Monday between Giovanni Manna – a Director at Juventus – and the England international’s entourage.

Calciomercato added in their written report that Juventus had considered moves for Pierre-Emile Højbjerg of Tottenham and Thomas Partey of Arsenal.

Now – however – the Serie A side have settled on Phillips as the No.1 target for January.

Juventus are in desperate need of reinforcements in central midfield after Nicolò Fagioli was suspended for violating betting rules – as was Newcastle No.8 Sandro Tonali.

Paul Pogba is also facing a lengthy ban for doping, so Massimiliano Allegri wants Phillips to bolster the midfield department.

The 27-year-old recently admitted that he wants “minutes” as he finds playing time hard to come by under Pep Guardiola.

Phillips has made just two Premier League starts since his £45m move from Leeds United in July 2022.

Kalvin Phillips would thrive at Juventus

We love to see British players test themselves abroad, and in our view, a move to Juventus would be fantastic for Phillips.

Italian football is a little slower than the Premier League, and arguably places more focus on technical ability rather than physical power like English football does.

Therefore, Phillips – who was nicknamed The Yorkshire Pirlo at Elland Road – could have some fun in Italy thanks to his immense passing qualities, at a club where the actual Andrea Pirlo cemented himself as a legend in Turin.

Having said that, Italian clubs do not possess anything close to the financial power of those in the Premier League nowadays, so it remains to be seen how Juventus will afford Phillips – an initial loan deal seems more likely than an immediate permanent switch.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as Juventus make Phillips their No.1 target.
