Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Paris Saint-Germain have started working on a potential contract for Bernardo Silva.

The Manchester City midfielder has been recently linked with a move to the French club, who see the 28-year-old as a suitable replacement for Lionel Messi.

With the summer transfer window now open, some behind-the-scenes details have come to light regarding PSG’s interest in the City star.

Speaking in a recent video on his YouTube channel, Romano said this about the situation.

He said: “Let me clarify one thing, Paris Saint-Germain have started concrete talks over a contract [for] Bernardo Silva.

“So, Paris Saint-Germain are working on on Bernardo Silva on the player’s side, with the player and with his agents. The conversation is ongoing, it’s not that easy, Paris Saint-Germain are working on that thanks to Luis Campos, who has a fantastic relationship with Bernardo Silva, he already had Bernardo at Monaco in the past.

“But it is important to say that there is still some work to do on the player’s side, to get the personal terms agreed and then negotiate with Manchester City, which is not going to be an easy part of the story.

“So, Bernardo is a top target for PSG but there is still something to do before saying ‘okay, it’s a done deal.’”

The Portuguese international was linked with a move away from the Etihad Stadium last summer, with Barcelona apparently interested in him, only for him to end up staying at City.

Having since won the treble with Pep Guardiola’s side, it was undeniably a good decision from him to not walk away from the club last summer.

With the City boss also hailing Silva as one of the best players he has ever coached, this, and the fact that the midfielder was extremely prominent in the team last season by featuring in all but six of their games, shows how valuable he is to the squad and why his potential exit would be a big loss for the club.

Moving forward, if Silva ends up getting his head turned by PSG this summer and has his heart set on moving to France, we feel that not only will City have to work out a deal with the club that suits them, but they will also have to do their best to bring in a suitable replacement.
