‘Could be quite special’… Pundit says £55m Man City star may be Pep’s knight in shining armour this season

Pundit Glenn Murray has suggested that Kevin De Bruyne could be Manchester City’s saviour this season.

The midfielder has been out injured since August with a hamstring injury that required him to have surgery.

With Pep Guardiola having said in his latest press conference that the Belgian has started running again and with De Bruyne himself saying that he is aiming to be back playing again in January, the midfielder will hopefully have the second half of the season to feature in for his side.

In fact, one pundit and former top-flight player has shared his thoughts on the impact that the 32-year-old’s return could have for his side.

Speaking in a recent edition of Football Daily, Murray had this to say about De Bruyne and what he could be able to do when he gets back in action.

He said: “The key to me in all of this, who has had a nice long rest and I think he might just come back to prove himself and just galvanise this Manchester City squad and lead them to something that could be quite special is Kevin De Bruyne.”

Last season saw the midfielder, whom City paid £55m to sign back in 2015, score 10 goals and supply 31 assists in 49 appearances, in addition to racking up more key passes (96) and tackles in the attacking third of the pitch (13) than any other City player in the Premier League.

With that in mind and the fact that De Bruyne was able to score goals in big games last season against the likes of Real Madrid and Arsenal, it’s easy to see why Murray thinks he has the ability to drag his team towards the titles they are chasing.

However, given the seriousness of his injury, it would be dangerous for the club to rush the Belgium international back into action.
