‘Could exhaust each other’… Jamie Carragher says Man City may have a big advantage in the title race

Jamie Carragher has claimed that Liverpool and Arsenal could tire each other out in terms of trying to take the Premier League title away from Manchester City.

As things stand, the Citizens find themselves in fourth place behind Arsenal, Liverpool and Aston Villa.

With the Manchester club away from domestic action this weekend due to their involvement in the FIFA Club World Cup, the top two sides are set to battle it out against each other on Saturday.

Looking ahead to this game at Anfield, one pundit and former Reds player has dropped a claim on the current title race and what advantage City could have in it further down the line.

Written in his latest column for The Telegraph where he previewed this weekend’s big clash between Liverpool and Arsenal, Carragher had this to say about the title race.

He said: “We will get a fair measure of where both teams are, and Manchester City will enjoy in seeing how desperate their rivals are to take advantage of their absence – confident in the knowledge Liverpool and Arsenal could exhaust each other over the next six weeks before being reeled in.”

Bearing in mind how City have significant experience of being in title races alongside the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal from previous seasons and winning those titles, it’s easy to see why Carragher hasn’t ruled Pep Guardiola’s side out of this one despite their poor run of recent form.

However, regardless of whether Liverpool and Arsenal do end up tiring each other out in this race, the main focus for City will be on making sure they pick up as many points as they can so they can be in with a shout of making history and winning a fourth Premier League title in a row.
