‘Could see him in a City shirt’… Stuart Pearce says ‘wonderful’ 22-year-old would be a top signing for Pep

Stuart Pearce has said that Michael Olise would be a good signing for Manchester City.

The Manchester club have a track record when it comes to signing players from fellow Premier League clubs such as Jack Grealish, Matheus Nunes and Mateo Kovacic among others.

Now though, one pundit and former City manager has pinpointed one current Premier League player that he feels would be a good fit in Pep Guardiola’s squad.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Pearce had this to say when asked if he thinks Olise could make the step up to play in a top side.

He said: “I’ve watched him a couple of times recently and the answer is yes. Not Man United… Man City.

“I looked at the way he played against Chelsea especially, he got beaten on the night but he was by far the best player on the pitch in my opinion. The way he dealt with the ball, his understanding of when to keep the ball, all of those type of things.

“I could see him in a City shirt.”

The 22-year-old spent a year in City’s youth ranks before eventually joining Reading, where he then went on to join Palace back in 2021 in a deal worth a reported fee of £8m.

Since then, the Frenchman has gone on to score 11 goals and deliver 20 assists in 80 appearances across all competitions.

Even though Olise has only played in nine Premier League games this season, he has still managed to score five goals and rack up the second-highest total of key passes (20) and second-highest rate of shot-creating actions made per 90 minutes (5.85) in the Palace squad.

Taking into account how City have scored more goals than any other side in the Premier League this season, it’s easy to see why a creative player like the Palace star could flourish in Guardiola’s side.

Back in April, Eagles manager Roy Hodgson described Olise as a “wonderful” player and backed him to have an exciting career, which is something we feel could happen for him if he were to make a move to City at some point in the future.
