Emilio Lawrence is a talent currently making a real name for himself at Manchester City after a strong start to the 2023/24 campaign.

The 18-year-old was recently tipped to replace Carlos Borges in the Under-21 setup at the Etihad Stadium, after the Portuguese wonderkid joined Ajax in a £17.3m deal back in August.

Now, there has been another exciting update on Manchester City starlet Emilio Lawrence

What’s the story?

Well, the teenager has now received a call-up to Scot Gemmill’s Scotland Under-21 side.

That speaks volumes, given the fact Lawrence is only 18 – clearly, the Scottish Football Association believe he is talented enough to play well above his age group.

It is the first time Manchester City’s teenage talent has been named in the Scotland Under-21 squad, having previously represented both England and Scotland’s Under-16 side, as well as England’s Under-15 team.

Clearly, Lawrence’s fine start to the 2023/24 campaign has not gone unnoticed.

Emilio Lawrence is developing very well at Manchester City

Lawrence, who Brian Barry-Murphy, Head Coach of the Elite Development Squad at the Etihad Stadium, called a “creative” forward when speaking to the Manchester Evening News, is on track to have a successful career, either at Manchester City or elsewhere.

The 2005-born attacker has already scored three goals in seven appearances so far this season, while also providing one assist, and looks set to follow in the footsteps of gems such as Romeo Lavia, Liam Delap and the aforementioned Borges.

There is no doubt that the Scottish starlet is in the right place to fulfil his vast potential.

You only need to look at the quality of players such as Cole Palmer, Rico Lewis and Oscar Bobb to see that Manchester City know exactly what they’re doing in the Elite Development Squad.

Hopefully, Lawrence can make an impact for the Scotland Under-21 side in their Under-21 EURO qualifiers over the international break, and continue his excellent start to the season.
