Manchester City’s recent slide continued on Sunday afternoon when they were seen off 2-0 by Premier League leaders Liverpool at Anfield.

The defeat marked a fourth consecutive league loss for the champions and a sixth defeat in seven games across all competitions, meaning City remain entrenched in the worst run of form they have ever experienced under Pep Guardiola, who was the subject of ‘you’re getting sacked in the morning’ chants from the home fans.

Liverpool now have an eleven-point Premier League lead over City and the chasing pack have also taken full advantage, with Guardiola’s men now sitting fifth in the table, as Arsenal, Chelsea and Brighton all overtook them this weekend.

That has left Jamie Carragher saying City now have a new fight on their hands if they are to even finish in the top four this season, as he fears the club’s 14-year run of qualifying for the Champions League could end this season.

Daniel Sturridge on how Man City can turn it around

There has been a belief among many pundits that City will inevitably turn their poor run of form around, with many saying one win will be enough to kick-start their season again.

However, former City striker Daniel Sturridge believes it will now take more than one win to get back on track.

“No, not one,” he said on Sky Sports following the Anfield defeat. “I think it’s an accumulation of performances, where they gain belief, multiple players are performing well at the same time and they gain momentum.

“I think it’s about gaining momentum now. Once you build on one performance, build on the next. It’s a game-by-game situation right now.”

Man City must take advantage of next two fixtures

One positive following the game at Anfield is that City will soon have another opportunity to turn things around, as they host Nottingham Forest at the Etihad on Wednesday evening.
